Drug Treatment Centers
If you or someone close that you love has a problem related to alcohol, drug use or some other addiction forms you would be advised to look into getting help from a drug treatment facility. You will find drug treatment centers all over the country. The state government runs some of the facilities for criminals penalized for drugs. But some governement facilites can be used by individuals who cannot afford their own private inpatient program. You also have private run facilities that require it's patients to have insurance coverage or their own funding if they want to join a rehab program. It must be said that the private facilities are definetely not on the cheap side, however some insurance plans will fit the bill.
At this stage you will probably have a lot of questions. Like, does the individual in question need to be put on a treatment program or can they handle the problem by themselves? If no, they cannot deal with the issue on their own, so you will need to know what can a treatment center actually do for them? While drug rehab facilities vary in their policies and procedures, there are some standard ethics and rules they all share. Eg, when the patient is first admitted into a facility they have to undergo an extensive evaluation period. At this time both the patient's physical and mental health will be analysed and their medical and personal history will also be examined.
After the initial evaluation period, there is a detoxification phase, which can happen in conjuction with the evaluation based on the severity of the patient's problems. Detoxification is the body's way of eliminating the excessive alcohol and drugs. The detoxification phase for many alcoholics and drug addicts can be extremely severe, and this can even be medically dangerous. Depending on which substance the patient is addicted to, the patient may have to be gradually weaned down to a zero dosage. The staff at the rehab facility will monitor and diagnose the patient carefully during this phase and administer any medical treatment as required. Detoxification times can vary vastly depending on the addictive substance and the severity of the addiction and the body's dependence on it.
Once the patient has been safely detoxed most drug treatment centers will begin counseling sessions, support group activity, behavioral therapy and some occupational therapy. During this treatment phase, patients are usually assigned different tasks and directed to participate in solitary and group activities. This is to encourage them to function back in the real world without the crutch of their former addictions. Once the program is entirely completed the patient is then released if he or she is ready. It is true that some addicts relapse, others leave the treatment centers with the skills they need to remain clean and sober for the rest of their lives.
